Our Story
We are Kathy and Robert Cappiello owners of the Great Harvest Bread Co. Newark, Delaware. What brought us to Great Harvest? Following our graduation from Widener University we were introduced by a friend to a local Great Harvest store in Pennsylvania. We were immediately impressed with the phenomenal fresh bread and the generous free slices at the bread board. Great Harvest quickly became part of our family traditions for weekend get-togethers, birthdays, and holiday dinners. Soon we were taking orders for family and friends in Delaware. Fast forward and our family has grown, our careers changed, but Great Harvest remained a part of our lives. Over the years we knew we wanted to own our own business some day and looked hard to find the perfect match. We looked at many opportunities, but we came back time and again to the experience and incredible products from Great Harvest. We feel that Great Harvest was a perfect fit with our philosophy and idea of a small business. We wanted to bring something unique to Delaware and we felt that the Newark community is a great match for our product with very informed, health-conscious customers that see the benefit of fresh, healthy, whole grain products. | | 
| Our Newark Great Harvest looks like no other Great Harvest out there. We operate under a “Freedom Franchise.” The “Freedom” part means that we get to run our business in a way that meets our community’s unique needs. The “Franchise” part gives us access to the recipes, processes, and support that Great Harvest has continuously improved for over two decades. The result is a small family owned bakery with strong ties to the community making breads and sweets that will knock your socks off!
| We grind wheat daily and make our own fresh whole wheat flour. We bake our breads and other baked goods from scratch and use no artificial preservatives. Our process creates moist, flavorful breads that taste wonderful and retain their freshness for 8 to 10 days. Nutritionally, these whole grain products just can't be beat. Each year we look to donate products and gifts to local non-profit organizations for their events and fund raisers. We believe that we should "think globally", but "act locally". We are proud to play such an active part in the community we live in and part of a franchise family that shares our own views. It is a great feeling to sell something you are so proud of. We love that Great Harvest bread is BOTH delicious and wholesome and that our store is a place where people can have fun and be themselves.
